Sewing Fun

100_5234 I recently signed up for a sewing class and have been throughly enjoying it. I did do a bit of sewing with my mom when I was younger but I was never very good at it and didn't have a lot of confidence in my skill. But it is always something I have wanted to be better at so when I graduated from BYU my present to myself was a sewing machine. I picked out a very basic one (by Brother) that was inexpensive and looked like it would be a good one to learn on. I was very nervous about spending a bunch of money and then never using it so I'm glad I went the route I did since I've had it for 4 1/2 years and am finally, just barely starting to use it.

I had gotten frustrated with looking at it sitting unused in my bedroom so I did the one thing I don't normally do and signed up for a sewing class with a bunch of people I've never meet before - which shows how much I really wanted to learn how to use it. It is a beginning sewing class taught at a local sewing center. You bring you machine in with you for 4 hours once a week for 3 weeks and complete a whole project. We are making blouses as our project and I just had to post and show off my progress (this is just the bodice portion of the shirt. The teacher says I picked a bit more complicated top (which she thought was good) and I have already learned how to do darts (which always frightened me before) and attach a lining. I still need to add the sleeves and the skirt of the shirt (?) but it is looking good. I have one more class this coming week and then I should have a completed shirt I am very excited.

I have also started in on my own side project (outside of class) of an apron. So look for pictures soon.
